INDIA is the 5th largest Exporter of Garments in the world with exports of the amount of 6.46 Billion US $ for the year 2003 and since then it has ever grown. So lets get down to discuss the state of the Garment & Textile Industry both in India and Internationally
Inportance of the Indian Garment & Textile Industry for our country
- 4 % of GDP
* 14 % of Industrial Production comes from these industries
* 27 % of the export earnings is from the garment and textile sector
- 21 % of work force ( Direct Employment to an estimated 35 million people ) is engaged in the garment or textile industry in our country
* 26 % ofworld cotton area is situated in India
* 13 % of the world cotton production happens in India
GLOBAL TRADE FLOW IN CLOTHING AND TEXTILES - IMPORTANCE OF ASIA
1. 20 % of Textile & Clothing trade moves from Asia to Western Europe and North America
2. Around 50 % of Textile trade is accounted within Asia & Western Europe
3. Asia accounts for more than 27 % of trade in clothing in Western Europe and North America ( This is irrespective of Quota Restrictions )
4. In Global clothing exports, China holds 28 %, followed by India, Indonesia, Korea, Italy, Germany, France, Turkey, Thailand, Mexico, Bangladesh, Vietnam and Romania |
